When the program starts, you will be asked to identify the distance along a number line. After the distance is correctly identified, you will be asked to write the fraction in lowest terms. To do so. think of the largest number that will divide evenly into both the numerator and the denominator. In the example above, the first fraction has a numerator of 8 and a denominator of 12. The largest number that divides evenly into 8 and 12 is 4. 4 is called the greatest common factor of 8 and 12. The numerator of the second fraction is 2 because 8 divided by 4 is 2. Written out, the example would look like this:

| After an equivalent fraction in lowest terms is entered, the number line for the second fraction will appear. It will show what an equivalent fraction in lowest terms will look like. |
