Vocabulary
congruent figures - objects that are identical in shape and size. Corresponding
sides and angles are equal in congruent figures.
transformation - a mapping of one geometrical figure to another according to
some rule
translation (slide) - moves an object in one direction
slope - the slopes of corresponding sides are equal in translations
reflection (flip) - creates a mirror image of the reflected object
line of reflection(mirror line) - the line of symmetry between the object and
its reflected image
rotation (turn) - revolves and object round a single point
centre of rotation
object (initial shape) - starting point of object
image (terminal shape) - final resting place of an object
For all congruence transformations:
- the corresponding line segments are equal;
- the corresponding angles are congruent;
- the image figure is congruent to the original figure
